The usual greasy spoon, Mexican-style. Decor is cheap and cheerful; emphasis on cheap. Spanish accordion music from the open kitchen reaches the front easily. Service is at a casual pace. Breakfast is a basic menu of eggs, potatoes and toast. Omelets are at the high end of the menu complexity scale. If you come here, you will be fed. Don't expect much more.

Excellent green sauce! They don't use cream soup in the recipe. Just delicious green chile chunks. Red sauce is very spicy and flavorful too. Enchilada plates have plenty of sauce. If you don't like flat enchiladas you can order them a la cart to get rolled. Fresh guacamole and delicious beef tacos too! Sopapillas are the best (and biggest) in town. All this with excellent service. The busier it is, the faster the food service.

Delicious, affordable and fast. No frills, no fuss. Simply just good food. Nothing to complain about. Highly recommend the Huevos Rancheros with green chile.

One of my favorite silver city restaurants and it's CHEAP!! I've had the burritos and the chicken tacos both were great. The green chili sauce is the best. I do not think they have a restroom thou because the place is so small. Next time we go back in going to try to have something off the American menu just to switch things up

Delicious, flavorful, and at the right price. I had the combo that came with a taco, 2 enchiladas, rice, beans, chili relleno, and 2 sopaipillas for $9. Everything was great!!

Excellent! Been craving New Mexican food, drove down here from Phoenix. Give this place a try if you like hot salsa, cold, fresh iced tea and a big combo plate! BTW- the combo plate comes with Sopapillas! Yummy!

This was what I would expect of a small college-town greasy-spoon. The portions were filling, if less than quality. I was pleasantly surprised that the chicken fried steak came with brown rather than cream gravy, too bad the breading was so bad I had to scrape it away and missed out on the gravy. My boyfriend's meal was so forgettable I can't even critique it. I give the overall of 3 stars only because of the amazing soup. If I'd have stopped there, this would be a different review indeed.

A true small town cafe: delicious, homey places like this are a dying breed! On the day after Christmas lots of families and couples young and old were coming in for a simple meal. Most people seemed to know each other and the staff. An old dude with a beautiful mustache gave us a welcoming wave when we out-of-towners wandered in. Inspirational posters on the wall, scuffed formica tabletops and fast, friendly service. The menu has both Mexican/New Mexican specialties and American diner classics and people seemed to be ordering equally from both. I had a platter with red chile beef, beans and rice. Partner had a combo with taco, enchilada and chile relleno. Basic food done well, served fresh and fast! The chile relleno was a thing of beauty, giant roasted green chile filled with cheese and coated in an fluffy eggy batter. His combo also came with whole wheat sopapillas and a jar of honey to drizzle: transcendent fried dough. I considered changing our travel route so we could pass back through Silver City and try the chicken fried steak or the hot roast beef sandwich!

Great small town cafe atmosphere with very good New Mexican style food. Great portion size and flavor for a reasonable price. The combo meals include sopaipillas, unlike the other place down the street. They're made with wheat flour and are great!

We dined here early on a Thursday morning and really enjoyed it! The cafe is on the historic Bullard street and it is so cozy and inviting. Our waitress was great and we ordered La Mexicana and the spanish omelet. The coffee was good and hot and our meals were delicious. The hash browns were crispy and the tortillas were fresh and I believe homemade. This is a great place to go for a diner experience with homestyle food.

Fresh, Delicious and cheap. What you see is what you get. It's not fancy but the food will keep you coming back for more. The chips and guac are off the hook and the red chili is spicy heaven. Go there. Eat some for me.

End of August 2013-- One year later we drove back to eat here. Their food has gone down hill, not sure what happened? Maybe because Nancy Ruiz isn't there to watch over her restaurant anymore (Nancy passed away in 2012). We had an enchilada that was very bland, bowl of beans and Green Chili, I think they called it green bowl, it was good. We also had a bowl of beans with Red Chili, probably called a red bowl. It was terrible! It appeared they just poured the red sauce on top of it. It was 3/4 bowl of red sauce and hardly any beans or meat. It was NOT edible. It was plain BAD and BAD for business. Thus the reason for the ONE star rating. Maybe they don't want out of towners coming in? If this was our first visit, then we wouldn't come back. We will return to Silver City but will probably not go to Nancy's Silver Cafe. We found a great burro shop on the NW corner of Hudson and College in Silver City.

Green chili was pretty good but the tortilla it came with was amazing! It reminded me of Russian blini, oh so good! Staff was friendly, too.

Cute place, friendly service, but the food was not great. I ordered the green chile relleno and it is not "made to order" but made prior and heated in a microwave, and the burritos are small and way too simple. The quality of food is similar to a T.V. dinner.

The food is hella good here! Chips and Salsa were GREAT! Breakfast is probably my favorite thing here! but the lunch is always great. i come here for dinner but not as much! the green chile is here very unique. but it's sooo good. my favorite is the chile rellenos covered in red. for breakfast pretty much everything. the huevo rancheros are really good!!! both green and red. it's a very simple place! not really big! but it is really good authentic food. it's casual and the environment is very chill! not expensive at all.

Whenever I'm in Silver City, I make it a point to come eat a couple of chiles rellenos at the Silver Cafe. Not quite up to my sister's home-cooking, but close enough to bring me back every time. Sometimes I'll get an enchilada instead: Both green and red are good. Another real treat: The authentic sopapillas made from scratch right there, and served hot out of the fryer. Bite off a corner and squeeze in some honey; or use one to mop up the chile gravy. Yum. They have always been happy to accommodate minor requests such as serving the entree without sides, at a small discount. Soda comes in a can, with a small selection of flavors. This is a smallish home-town kind of place, frequented at lunch time by locals, so you may find it best to visit a little outside the usual noon-time rush.

I was born and raised in the Grant County area. When I travel back to the area I usually stop by at the Silver Cafe. The combo plate is very good.

I stopped in here on the recommendation of the hotel staff. Breakfast was average at best. The staff was very quick to attend my needs but the food was lacking. The breakfast menu didn't have many options for Mexican food, and the three it did have were at least a dollar or two more than everything else. The huevos rancheros were swimming in green sauce, while the sauce tasted alright it was watery to the point I saw an egg climb into a life boat and float away to higher ground atop the mountain of undercooked "hash browns". Overall it's filling, but overpriced and underwhelming.

Really tasty hole in the wall type of place. Great red sauce and service.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
